Stay in an upcycled old house!

Retro yet modern !

Knotted Rope

Where Music and Architecture Intertwine

This is Cloud House's flagship project, and it's more than just an accommodation.

It's a creation by Takuto Mori, a musician who embodies the spirit of Amami Oshima.

His music, a unique blend of rock, surf, reggae, and more, creates a distinctive groove.

Just like his music, the space is unconventional, free, and inviting.

Like his famously bluesy lyrics that resonate like island songs, it's a house that stirs the soul.

Come experience the fusion of Takuto Mori's artistry in both music and architecture, and immerse yourself in the nature and culture of Amami Oshima.

Why We Launched The Cloud House Project

On Amami Oshima Island, the number of vacant houses is increasing due to the declining and aging population. If left unattended, these vacant houses can become dilapidated and not only spoil the local landscape, but can also lead to disaster prevention problems and worsening public safety.

By upcycling these vacant houses, we aim to solve the following issues.

  • Solving the vacant house problem: We contribute to solving the vacant house problem by bringing vacant houses that have been abandoned for years back to life and putting them to effective use.

  • Community Revitalization: Upcycled vacant houses can be used for a variety of purposes, including as a base of interaction for immigrants and tourists, and as a community space for local residents.

  • Environmental Preservation: Reusing existing buildings reduces waste from demolition and new construction, contributes to effective use of resources, and helps protect the local landscape

  • Cultural Inheritance: Utilizing old buildings can help preserve their history and culture.

What is upcycling?

Upcycling differs from mere recycling in that it is the process of adding new ideas and designs to something that would have otherwise been discarded, making it more valuable than the original product. Examples include remaking old clothes to make new clothes, or reusing scrap wood to make furniture or artwork.

Our Concepts

Give life to abandoned houses.

01

Eco Design

This old house, surrounded by the lush nature of Amami Oshima, was renovated with environmental considerations in mind.
Working in cooperation with a local construction company, we utilized recycled waste materials and used building materials with a low environmental impact without compromising the charm of the old house.
We have also incorporated traditional building techniques to create a comfortable modern home, so we hope you will come and experience it for yourself!

02

Functionality

This accommodation is not only equipped with all the necessary amenities for daily life, but also offers barbecue facilities and a portable sauna tent in the spacious backyard. The owner's pride is that you can connect to the Internet via STARLINK WIFI developed by Elon Musk.

03

Activities

There are many activities to enjoy on the island. Nearby, you can snorkel at Kuninao Beach, where coral reefs stretch to the horizon. You can also enjoy hot spring pools and saunas at the newly opened Hanahana Onsen Resort. Amami is famous for mud dyeing, so if you don't mind getting dirty, we recommend the mud dyeing experience at Kanmura Dyeing. If you want to go a little further, we recommend the Amami Primeval Forest Mangrove Tour by kayak. If you want to see the crystal clear waters of Amami Blue, you can also visit Kakeroma Island.

04

Food and Drinks

There are only a few restaurants nearby, but if you go swimming at Kuninao Beach, try B-Lunch. If you go to Hanahana Onsen Resort, there is a restaurant that is open from lunch to dinner. And in the evening, we recommend Yanagawa, which has a wide variety of options. If you are visiting during peak season, make sure to make a reservation. For alcohol lovers, we recommend a tasting at Amami Brown Sugar Shochu Brewery.
